Torre de Hércules
The Tower of Hercules is the oldest Roman lighthouse in the world and the only one that remains in service. It was most likely built in the second half of the 1st century. Its light has always been a reference point for travellers. The current exterior dates from the 18th century and was declared a world heritage site in 2009. The Tower of Hercules is located on the north coast of the peninsula of A Coruña on a hill 60 metres high. From the foot, 234 steps up, we come to the viewpoint from where there is a superb view of A Coruña. The Tower of Hercules Sculpture Park lies nearby, it is an open air museum where you can feel the sea breeze, its flavour and aroma in surroundings steeped in mythological legends.
Domus - Casa del Hombre
Domus and Casa do Home is an interactive museum dedicated to the human being. The building is the work of the Japanese artist Arata Isozaki and has more than 200 interactive modules to enjoy and reflect upon the characteristics of the human species. The museum is designed to house a series of interactive exhibits through which the visitor can experience the many aspects of the human body mechanism.
Maria Pita Square
Located in the city centre Maria Pita square is probably A Coruna's main city plaza and takes its name from the town's heroine, Maria Pita, an indisputable significant character in the history of A Coruña. The main entrance (which you approach from the city's harbour side) is distinguished and gives the impression that you are walking into a Royal court. This impression is further enhanced by the Town Hall and Council building (Palacio Municipal) which is truly monumental in both its scale and incredibly ornate detailing.
From the square you can reach main shopping and cultural areas. From Maria Pita Square end of the Marina Avenue, marvel at the glass galleries facing the marina.
Aquarium Finisterrae
Aquarium Finisterrae is located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, next to the historical lighthouse Torre de Hércules. The entire Galician coast in one museum: The fishermen, markets, coastal songs... are also come to life in Casa dos Peixes. The spectacular natural surroundings are an extension of the museum. Playa Riazor- Orzán
A Coruña has more than two kilometres of beaches in the city, which makes it an ideal place for practising all types of water sports: surf, sailing, windsurf, diving, rowing, and canoeing. The blue flag flies in both beaches where you can find services like lavatories, showers, security, rescue, lifeguard and first aid, disabled access and a nearby parking space.
Ikea
Shop in La Coruña from the Swedish furniture store. It is integrated in the CC Marineda City, notable for being the largest shopping mall in Spain and second in the world. It is easily reached by bus line 11.
Millennium Obelisk
Situated in the promenade. It was inaugurated the 1st January 2001celebrating the new century and new millennium. The luminous Millennium obelisk reaches a height of 50 metres. The story of the major events and characters of the city is recounted in images on the 178 glass panels.
Monte de San Pedro
What was once a former defence point has become A Coruña's best mirador and leisure area. From Monte San Pedro we can see the comings and goings of boats guided by the millenary lighthouse. In the distance we can see Cape San Adrián and Sisargas to the West and Cape Prior to the North West. You will be impressed by the presence of the immense cannons. War machines that used to defend the city and that now signal to the horizon so that no one misses the best sunsets.
Casa de las Ciencias (Science Museum)
Casa das Ciencias was the first public interactive museum in Spain in 1983. The little palace in Santa Margarita Park has a planetarium and three floors of exhibition space: physical experiments, temporary exhibition and science news. You can find a Foucault's pendulum swinging in a gap in the central staircase. The building itself was built in the 50's is a tourist attraction for those interested in architecture.
